THE THINGS THAT SELL

Have you ever noticed that when you make the move from hobby projects for wives/husbands, family, and friends to that of trying to turn a profit, that the most awesome project idea that we can come up with is not usually the best seller?

For instance, I made a rendition of a popular logo as a favor for someone and as a just for fun project, and I've had more requests for more of that than my own original iron work? When I look at it from a metal workers vantage point, it's pretty dirt simple and strait forward of a piece. Now comparing that simple strait forward metal work, to some of my other pieces, which I thought long and hard about fabricating and invested a lot of "heart and soul" to me there seems to be no comparison.

Maybe I've not just carved out that niche yet, for my pieces to have that "cool" factor? Who knows. The most memorable comment I recall hearing was "what'd you do heat that up and beat the hound out of it with a hammer?" My reply was "yeah hit it with a hammer".

Sounded so crude at the time, but then again we're back to the simple things......

Heat it up and hit it with a hammer!
